At long last, spring has arrived! Say goodbye to dreary clouds and drizzly rain, and hello to clear skies and warm sunshine. And what better way to greet the new season than with a touch of spring cleaning and decoration? Freshen up your interior spaces with our top tips on welcoming spring into your home.
Change your bedding
Nothing will make you feel quite as refreshed and rejuvenated as sinking into clean, cool new bedding at the end of a long day. You’ll want to swap out any winter bedding you may currently be using – flannel sheets, duck down quilts – for lighter sheets and blankets. Be sure to wash your old sheets, doona and pillowcases on a warm spring day so that you can hang them out to dry in the sun.
Clean out your wardrobe
Whether it’s your quarterly clothing cull or a clean out years in the making, spring is the ideal time to go through your wardrobe and decide what to keep and what to toss. Clear out anything you haven’t worn in a while and neatly fold, hang or store the appropriate garments. You can even create an organisational system and sort your wardrobe by colour, season, or type of clothing. Not only will this create more storage space, but it’ll help to make getting dressed in the mornings much quicker and easier.
Add a pop of colour
Whether it’s painting your front door, adding a statement piece of furniture or installing a feature wall, adding a fresh burst of colour to a communal room or your outdoor area can change the whole look and feel of your home for spring. You can also opt for more subtle splashes of colour in the form of ornaments, table decorations and wall hangings. Remember that the key is balance – as long as you use colour in a way that complements your existing design, the sky is the limit.
Rearrange your furniture
Changing up the layout of your lounge, dining room or bedroom will give you a whole new perspective on the room. Try simply swapping your furniture around, or adding or removing pieces. This can open up space you didn’t know you had and even introduce more natural lighting as the days grow warmer and longer. Rearranging your furniture will also help you to eliminate clutter and create fresh new spaces for entertainment or relaxation.
Change your drapes
Thick curtains are perfect for keeping your home warm in winter, but with summer looming, it’s a good time to replace the drapes with something a little more lightweight. Sheer curtains and roman shades are both popular options for the warmer weather and are available in a variety of styles and colour to suit your home.
Add a rug
Rugs make for cosy, colourful additions to any area, particularly those with wooden floorboards. Pop one in the kitchen to warm up the space, under the sofa in the living room to complement your furniture, or in the hallway to welcome guests into your home. This is one of the easiest and most effective ways to subtly change the mood of a room.
Bring the outdoors indoors
One of the best parts of spring is seeing the trees regaining their leaves and flowers beginning to bloom. Bring some of that new life into your home by sprucing up your dining or coffee table with a vase of beautiful blooms, or investing in some leafy green potted plants.
These are just some of the ways in which you can change up your home design or decor for the warmer months. Even the smallest adjustments can create a big difference!
