Inspired by the natural beauty of Palm Cove, the large family home the Dunedin displayed at Berwick Waters captures the essence of summer living everyday with its fresh, breezy style and focus on comfort.
Created foremost as a home to meet the demands of modern family life, the Dunedin is a serene sanctuary. Cleverly designed around three distinct zones over a 30 square single level floorplan, it features relaxing spaces where everyone can come together or unwind solo – its the ultimate family house design.
Taking its cues from Australia’s beautiful north Queensland coast, the home has a welcoming, modern beach house vibe with its distinct exterior design, warm spotted gum throughout, and milky whites, sea foam greens and soft greys balanced with caramel tones creating a calming, kick-off-your-shoes effect.
Up front is the master bedroom with walk-in-robe and spacious ensuite, as well as a home theatre. The heart of the home opens up into a large family living zone with a feng shui designed kitchen, dining area and living room with study nook all connected by a soaring raked ceiling overhead. Towards the back of the home, the three additional bedrooms, family bathroom and rumpus provide a desirable and secluded children’s zone.
From the street, the Dunedin commands attention with its contemporary yet coastal King Island façade. It’s high-pitched roof, pointed gable and horizontal glazing to the front window all give a preview of what’s to come.
Sitting at the front of this large family home is the zone that’s devoted to the adults with a restful master bedroom featuring a 1½ wide door, a cosy reading nook, well-appointed walk-in-robe and an ensuite that’s open to the bedroom, reminiscent of a luxury resort.
Also located in this zone is the first of three living spaces, the home theatre. Separated from the main living area, it feels a touch more formal and makes for the perfect adult escape. But it’s also a place where the family can all come together for movie night.
Moving further down the right side of the home is the sleeping zone with bedrooms two and three, family bathroom and separate WC. Bedroom four is located at the rear of the home off the separate rumpus making it the perfect bedroom for an older teenager or a guest bedroom needing extra privacy.
A prime consideration when designing this idyllic large family home was to create relaxed, friendly communal areas balanced with quiet spaces where family members can escape for some downtime. As a result, the main open plan living zone located at the heart of this home – which includes the living room, dining area and kitchen – is a comfortable, light-filled space where everyone gathers, while off this is the separate rumpus where children and teenagers can chill out.
The kitchen isn’t any ordinary kitchen… With its designer triangle principle – where the oven, the fridge and the sink form a triangle – as well as its positioning away from the bathroom, laundry, front and back doors; clutter busting galley and walk-in-pantry; and feel-good palette.
Rounding off this large family home is the functional spaces with plenty of storage space. From the cloak cupboard for shoes, school bags and jackets and supersized laundry to the galley and walk-in-pantry, all designed to improve everyday family living and making clutter a thing of the past.
A constant in our bestseller list, the Dunedin is a large family home – a favourite among our clients. Where you can leave behind all the stress and pressure of modern life with its sun-drenched spaces, great storage options and gorgeous looks. It’s a house built for blissed out family life with space for everyone to move around inside and out.
