Creating cosy winter spaces

If you’re looking to add value and appeal to your property, while creating year round useable areas – consider creating cosy spaces with internal and external fireplaces.

Fireplaces can add spark to any space during the seasonally darker, colder months, which makes them a very enjoyable element to have in your home!

  • A fireplace in an alfresco area can be a really worthwhile addition, with some long winter months made more bearable by maintaining a useable outdoor entertaining area
  • An indoor fireplace can create a super cosy lounge room, ready for winter movie watching or warm and comfortable book reading on the couch
  • A fireplace in formal lounge room, which opens onto the dining area, can add appeal for those who enjoy staying in during winter or entertaining at home. It’s nice to have the fire burning in the background while you enjoy dinner, and particularly pleasant to retreat to the fireplace for a cuppa or a nightcap afterwards
  • If a fireplace isn’t for you, other easy winter warmers important in new home design include a central heating system and heater lamps in the bathrooms, while gas or oil heaters, or even some casual throws and rugs to help boost the cosiness in your home

With Melbourne’s often tricky climate, the key to adding value to your home with a fireplace is balance, because while nothing beats warming up by the fire on a chilly Melbourne afternoon and evening (and it arguably has a need for a fireplace during more months of the year than other cities), it’s still nice to offset the wintery aspect with a ceiling fan for summer functionality.
